Oli, MSc

Former Elite Athlete / Sportswear Enthusiast

Throughout my early years I was competing in a variety of sports; although, as I got older I had to make a decision as to which sport to focus on. I ended up committing my time to inline hockey. This sport provided lifelong memories, as I competed for Great Britain select squads around the world in places such as Hong Kong and Spain. However, I am not the first member of my family to compete internationally. My inspirational Taid, Roger Harrison-Jones, is an National runner and still represents Wales at the age of 86! Running for me was more about fitness training for inline hockey, although I did end up placing 2nd in the North Wales Championships under 20’s. One of the most interesting events I participated in, was the Man vs Horse race (the horse won!).

Outside of sport, I completed my undergraduate in sports teaching, then went on to complete a Masters Degree in nutrition, as I wanted to develop the wellbeing of individuals. Helping others to achieve their potential remains a passion of mine, therefore I feel grateful to be able to supply quality products to North Wales through The Trainer Container.

Tom

Elite Runner / On Running Specialist

My running journey started in Colwyn Bay where I competed on the track as a junior (800m/1500m). My dad was an Olympic 800m runner so I was not short of inspiration. My sister (Alex) and I used to compete against each other and she also reached an elite level by hanging onto my coattails (or was it the other way around?). I moved to Loughborough University to study and train under the guidance of the legendary middle-distance coach George Gandy. Here I went from club runner to international athlete competing for Great Britain in the 1500m at the World Student Games and the European U23 championships (4th). After achieving my ambition to run under 4 minutes for a mile, I retired from athletics, I became a science teacher and worked part-time as a tech rep for a new running brand (On). The shoes I have encountered in this role have given me back that feeling of freedom and a renewed love for the sport that I thought was over. I have chosen "On" over other brands because they excel in all sciences: Physics - unbeatable cushioning and innovative rebound technology; Chemistry - with materials that are more considerate to the planet; Biology  - Gives a floating feeling when running (running on clouds?)

At Loughborough University I found that training as part of a group had a multiplier effect on performance (both physical and psychological). To facilitate this, I will be holding regular meet-ups and 'Try On' sessions to support and motivate others on their running journey.
